Wholly Abiding

When I don’t feel like I’m enough…

Encouragement· Everyday Life· For the Mama· For the Wife· Truth

10 May

I’m in a season where I feel like there is so much on my plate and I am not doing any of it well. It feels like I’m just getting by and I am not doing enough in the areas that are most important to me.

I can’t seem to get out the door without being in a mad rush. I can’t get my girls dressed and ready without a fight. Any meal I make feels like it’s thrown together and my house never feels kept up. The laundry piles up faster than I ever thought possible. I can’t remember the last day that I didn’t lose my patience. My morning devotions are interrupted more often than not. A quiet morning that I may have is followed by whining and immediate requests. My disciplining doesn’t seem to work for more than five minutes and I don’t feel like I can give the individual attention need to each of my three girls and to my husband.

I feel stretched so thin. I tell my husband all the time that I just can’t keep up. I wonder when or if I’ll ever feel able to give my attention to anything more than making sure everyone is fed and healthy.

Through it all, I’m thankful for a God who is greater. He knows I’m limited, but He is limitless. I’m thankful that He chose my kids for me, knowing that I would be the Mom that they would need to raise them well, even when it doesn’t feel like I’m doing a good enough job. I’m thankful that He not only fills the gaps when I feel that I am not enough, but that He is MORE than ENOUGH. He is enough for me. He is enough for my kids. He is enough for my husband. He is enough when I feel so scattered and impatient. He is enough when I feel like I’ve failed over and over again.

I hope that in our moments of feeling like we’ve failed because we are not doing enough, that we might take a second to look up, and praise the One who sees us in each moment. He sees us and He loves us the same. The One who looks upon His children with tender eyes, waiting for us to ask for His help in moments where we realize we are not enough. We will never be enough. Only HE is ENOUGH!

Spot on, my dear. Only God is enough to sustain us and equip us for each day we face. Keep your head up and trust He will help you navigate every single thing He puts on your plate. One day at a time. Only He is enough.

A few things I’ve learned:

There will always be gaps in your children’s education no matter how you choose to school them.

You know your kids best and can direct them in their God given abilities and strengths.

Your love for your children will cause you to go to great lengths to make sure they have what they need.

Will it be perfect no matter what you choose? No.

This is not a call for every family to homeschool as I believe it is a conviction and each family chooses what is best for them. It was not in our plans and yet God has called us here for these years. Forever? Maybe not. But right now. And if you’ve had the nudge my encouragement to you is that YOU CAN! Will it be easy? No. But it will stretch you and grow you.

Success can make us believe we can do things in our own strength.

Discomfort can cause us to go deeper.

Had to capture our tree for the gram before it all
Had to capture our tree for the gram before it all comes down 🎄 I’m so grateful to know the true meaning -

The One Who Satisfies

Because when it’s all over - the lights, the presents, the food, the events…It’s easy to be left feeling empty. Was that it? Wasn’t there supposed to be more? Am I missing something? Why don’t I feel satisfied? It never will and this life is never meant to.

Only He Satisfies.

Each year I try to bring it back more and more to the true meaning. It’s challenging when the world makes it so far from what it’s meant to be about. But this tree was a small reminder in our home - The reminder of God in Flesh coming down to our broken world. We filled this tree with a few of His infinite Names that remind us that He is the fulfillment of everything this world is lacking. Without Him, we are nothing.
Thank you, Jesus!

So thankful for our Hope in Jesus.
He came.
He died.
He rose.
All because of His love for us.
He doesn’t need us to work out His perfect plans.
But He chooses us because He delights in us.
Surrendering your life to Him won’t make it any easier.
In fact, it may make it harder.
But to know the Creator of the world holds your life in His hands in the greatest hope, peace and joy. He is worthy of everything!

Day 17: I’m thankful for the Gospel (The Good News!) Is there really any other reason to be thankful?! This is it. It ALL flows out of knowing that Christ came to save. Without Him, life would be hopeless. Thank you, Jesus.

Matt’s Farmor (“Fathers mother” in Swedish) has said these words to me almost every time I’ve seen her and I cherish them. I feel them down deep in my bones. The incredible job it is to steward these souls and these lives on this side of heaven is not lost on me.

I am so grateful I get to be Mom to these three beautiful girls. It’s amazing to watch how God has created them so uniquely and I remind them so often that God has a unique purpose for each of their lives. As a mom, I get to be the one to encourage, disciple, correct and cheer them on.

I’m so far from perfect in this arena.

I am so grateful that His mercies are new each and every day because more often than not it feels like “the biggest job”. I never knew that motherhood would be so humbling and also so refining. It’s a gift from God. Another reminder from Him that I’m so limited and my need for Him is so great. Without Him I wouldn’t have these three and without Him I wouldn’t be able to do “the biggest job and the best job”

Moms, your job is so important! Let’s lean into the One who is our Strength in the hard times and our Song in the best times. We get to do the biggest and best job out there!

Day 8: I’m thankful for TIME It’s funny thing. It Day 8: I’m thankful for TIME

It’s funny thing. It’s out of our control and yet we decide how to spend it. It flies by and then it drags on. How we perceive it is so far from how God sees it. It’s a reflection of our values and yet we have to protect it because it can be easily wasted. It gets away from us. We don’t get to determine how much of it we have.
